MagnumStone’s Gravity and Geogrid Wall Solutions

The high school project is comprised of two MagnumStone walls, one gravity wall and one geogrid design. The gravity wall was built with a maximum exposed height of 5 ft. (1.52 m.), while the geogrid reinforced wall reaches a height of 20 ft. (6.1 m.). A total of 6,190 sq. ft. (575 sq. m.) of wall area was installed. The specification of MagnumStone was driven by the need for the shorter wall along the athletic field’s track to be a gravity system.

Strong, Diverse Retaining Wall Capabilities

Gravity was the preferred design for the field because numerous utilities are located behind the wall. The engineer wanted to avoid geogrid reinforcement, as it slows down construction and makes wall and utilities installations more difficult. MagnumStone’s smooth precast block facing also provides a less abrasive surface. This was a safety priority for an area where there is plenty of traffic and interaction with athletes and spectators. The tall wall utilized geogrid reinforcement along a nearby slope to protect a roadway to the school.
